Today is all about paying homage to booties. And no that’s not what I mean….
Who would have thought that chopping off part of a boot would become such a hit?!? If you do not have a pair of booties in your closet, now is the time! Booties or ankle boots are such a versatile item, and I’m all about mixing and matching items across seasons. In Houston, I eagerly await the coming of November and December, as I can finally justify wearing boots without looking odd. Let’s face it. In Texas, the amount of truly “cold” days are limited.
With booties, you don’t have to wait until the coming of winter to pull them out of your closet. As booties have continued to rise in popularity over the years, so has their style. In the summer and autumn months, wearing open-toe booties has become quite the norm for a girl’s night out. I love wearing booties with dresses and skirts for a bit of flair.
There are countless ways to rock the look. A pair of flat booties with leggings and long sleeve shirt or tunic is a great way to be cute but comfortable. Try pairing some wedge booties with a fit and flare skirt and a button down, and you have a sporty look that is work appropriate. Booties are great with both maxi and mini dresses, but my cardinal fashion rule comes to play. If you are working a dress that has a lot of detail and/or print, keep the booties simple. You cannot go wrong with a solid pair of flat or wedged booties. If you are more on the practical side, this is definitely your best bet.
Designers like Charlotte Olympia and Christian Louboutin have created some pretty outrageous and fun looks for the evening, but always know your audience. If you are at work, avoid the 4 inch pair! Seriously, I see this all the time, and it looks incredibly unprofessional.
Of the looks below, I own the Toms, Chloé, and Sperry booties, and I highly recommend!! The Toms booties are super comfortable, but I have heard from friends and fellow fashionistas that their sizing is a bit off (just keep this in mind when buying). The Chloé boots are super comfortable and definitely serve as a statement piece. I do try to ignore the fact that all of the Kardashian sisters wear them. This is normally a deterrent, but on these I’ll make an exception.
