While most post-Golden Globe fashion features tend to highlight the leading ladies individually, today I want to highlight my two favorite designers of the evening. As I made a mental checklist of my favorite dresses, I noticed that they were effortlessly crafted by two designers: Versace and Zuhair Murad. Both designers are well-known for designing gowns that exude drama, elegance, and boldness, and these attributes were well represented last night.
Over the past few years, Zuhair Murad has been praised from everyone from Marion Cotillard to Jennifer Lopez, and there is no question that he will be a permanent fixture on the red carpet. Born in 1971 in Beirut, Lebanon, Zuhair Murad like many designers made the journey to Paris to study fashion. While his name has become better known in the United States over the past five years, Murad featured his first line in 1999. Since then, he has dressed women of all ages, shapes, and sizes (including numerous international royal figures).
My two favorite Zuhair Murad dresses were worn by Chrissy Teigen and Jennifer Lopez. The most frequent color tones last night were white, cream, and other nude-based shades. Both of these dresses fell within the trend of the evening. My favorite element of both looks was the sleek lines visible throughout the dress. While the tones were warm, adding bold lines made the dresses pop (I’ll leave the cleavage jokes to Jeremy Renner).
Donatella Versace has served as the chief designer of the Versace Group ever since her brother, Giovanni, was tragically murdered in Miami. While she initially intended on working in public relations in the 1970s, Giovanni encouraged her to serve as a design muse and critic. Donatella helped transform the fashion house’s image by expanding their reach in the interior decorating and hotel space. The Palazzo Versace Dubai is currently under construction and is intended to include restaurants as well as residences and penthouses. Versace’s infamous bold and ornate designs will grace the interiors of what will surely be a luxurious hotel.
Jessica Chastain, Amy Adams, Heidi Klum, and Kate Hudson all sported Versace creations, and I’m going to go rogue by choosing Jessica Chastain and Heidi Klum as my favorite looks of the night. Jessica Chastain cannot go wrong, and I loved that she went for a bold metallic look to contrast her own softness. Heidi’s dress fit her perfectly, and I loved the shade of red. I find it rather obnoxious when women go over the top when they are not nominees. While red can be an eye catcher, this shade was bold but not over the top. Kate Hudson and Amy Adams both went for sleek silhouettes that perfectly outlined their petite frames. While Versace red carpet creations are often known for their ornate designs, I love that these dresses all had a simple, elegant look with one unique pop.
What was your favorite look of the night?
