Anyone watch the Academy Awards last night? Quite frankly, I was not in the mood to watch a ten-hour production, so I stuck to the fashion.
Much like the show itself, there really weren’t a whole lot of surprises or stand out performances. In fact, the fashion trends of the evening can be easily summed up into a few key trends.
When it comes to the color of the gowns, roughly seventy percent of the dresses were a shade of white/cream, black, or red. Take a look at my Ladybug Love post for more on the meaning behind this color combination. To summarize, these colors represent strength and beauty, which perfectly aligned with the atmosphere of the night. While I may not have seen the show live, I did watch Ms. Patricia Arquette’s speech. Talk about the power of women!
Red Carpet Red
Creme of the Crop
Black Out
Honorable Mention
Another major trend of the evening was statement necklaces. When it comes to livening up your work attire (more to come on this in a future post), one of the easiest techniques is to incorporate a statement piece, whether in the form of a necklace or earrings. The same rings true for walking the red carpet or attending a black tie function (for us ordinary souls). Last night, Kate Blanchett’s blue necklace made her simple black dress pop. Scarlett Johansson also rocked an incredible green chandelier necklace with her emerald-green dress. A lot of people thought it was terrible, but I actually thought it suited her well. Other beautiful necklaces were worn by Margot Robbie and Jessica Chastain.
The designer of the night was hands down Zuhair Murad. Name a favorite dress from the evening, and chances are it was hand crafted by the infamous Lebanese designer.
On the men’s side, quite a few gentlemen rocked the white jacket. If you ask me, no one can sport this look better than Humphrey Bogart. Adrian Brody, Benedict Cumberbatch, Kevin Hart, and Eddie Murphy rocked the white jacket. I will have to give Benedict Cumberbatch the award for top wearer of the white jacket (and not just because I love him as Sherlock). Fortunately, most men stuck to the classic black look, and I my top looks belong to Chris…Pine, Pratt, and Evans.

So who were my favorites of the evening?
The Women
- Roasamund Pike
- Emma Stone
- Lupita Nyong’o
- Margot Robbie
- Jenna Dewan Tatum
The Men
- Chris Pine
- Chris Evans
- Chris Pratt
- Bradley Cooper
- Channing Tatum
Ohh I was so looking forward to this blog! Everyone looked amazing, and I was quite shocked at Lady GaGa’s outfit… it was rather low key for her!

Thanks Vicky!!!!!!!!! Totally agree. Lady Gaga’s dress was pretty understated for her. Those red gloves were a bit much though. She looked like she was ready to scrub a sink, so sans gloves, I would have been happy.

I didn’t get a chance to watch the Oscar’s last night as well but of course I caught up with the fabulous red carpet style! So many beautiful appearances and grand statements; I have a handful of best dressed favorites but from the top of my head my personal best dressed list includes: Jennifer Aniston, JLO, Scarlet Johanson, Emma Stone and Margot Robbie! Great post girly.

Thanks gorgeous! I think sometimes just watching clips of the highlights gives me moments of my life back. 😉 I did watch Lady Gaga’s performance, which was incredible.
I LOVED JLo’s 2nd look even better than the first. That dress was stunning, but I think it would look better on someone with your body type. Oscar fashion can be a hit or miss, but I think the ladies (and the men) did a great job.

I agree! Rosamund Pike’s dress was my favourite, and Chris Pine looked so handsome in his double-breasted suit!

Yes ma’am! I loved the cut of his suit and those EYES!!! Rosamund Pike has had a few misses this season, but she killed it on Sunday. From the fit to the color, this was the clear winner.

Very nice compilation! From the girls, I think the best dressed for me was Dakota Johnson. That simple red dress was everything, and it looked very elegant and very beautiful on her body. Some other high mentions in my list were JLo, Emma Stone, and Jessica Chastain. From the guys, I always like guys who take a little risk. That double sided lapel, blue velvet suit that Eddie Redmayne wore made him climb to the top of the list for risk taker for me. Second best to me was Chris Pine, and in third Bradley Cooper. And while I disliked Lady Gaga’s outfit, she killed it on stage with her performance! What a way to save the night. Great post!! 🙂

Hector!!!! I always enjoy reading your thoughts. I do agree that Dakota Johnson looked wonderful. While I find her rather obnoxious at times, there is no denying that the cut, fit, and color of the dress looked amazing on her. I LOVE Jessica Chastain, as she is not built like a stick. She is always overlooked, but I thought she looked wonderful. Emma Stone’s look was her best ever. She actually had some other great looks over the weekend. I completely agree when it comes to the men. Eddie Redmayne can pull off virtually everything and has looked great at all award shows. I may have been slightly skewed with my #1 pick, as those eyes are distracting!;)
I think Lady Gaga has so much potential from a style perspective, and if she aligns her elegance with her undeniable talent, she will never look back.

Is it just me or does Giuliana’s dress really looked this cheap and plastic?? And I loved Rosamund Pike, she was gorgeous!! But Emma Stone was my favourite.

Emma Stone was surely at her best. The colors perfectly highlighted her hair and skin color. Giuliana has really become quite obnoxious over the past few years. I remember watching her years and years before she was married, and she was a good 30 pounds heavier (and more natural and authentic). Now she just looks like the walking dead. Rosamund looked incredible…I cannot believe she just had a child!
