For those of you lucky enough to have been born, raised, or to have moved to Texas, I congratulate you. Today, March 2, is a special day for all Texans, as it is the day we celebrate our independence. For those of you not from Texas (or from the United States), today marks the signing of the Texas Declaration of Independence. With the signing of this infamous Declaration, Texas officially became independent from Mexico.
While the Texas Declaration of Independence was signed in 1836, it was not until 1839 that Texas officially adopted the Lone Star flag. Many incredible accomplishments and countless famous individuals have come from the Lone Star State. Here a few Texas you have probably heard of: ZZ Top, Janis Joplin, Buddy Holly, Carol Burnett, Tommy Lee Jones, Woody Harrelson, Matthew McConaughey, Jaclyn Smith, The Wilson Brothers, Steve Martin, Aaron Spelling, Jamie Foxx, Joan Crawford, Farah Fawcett, Robert Rodriguez, Forest Whitaker, Nolan Ryan, Sissy Spacek, and Beyonce.
Texas is also home to the world’s first rodeo, Dr. Pepper (you’re welcome world), the United States’ oldest law enforcement agency, Frito pie, and Blue Bell ice cream. My home town, Houston, is the country’s fourth largest city, home to some of the world’s best shopping, and home to the Astrodome (the first domed stadium in the United States).
Oh and for those of you who think Texas is backwards, we were the first state to elect a female governor.
Texas has also influenced the fashion world. Ever heard of Tom Ford? I thought so. Kendra Scott and Elaine Turner are also famous Texas designers taking the world by storm. We also gave birth to Neiman Marcus and Lela Rose. Texas’ awesomeness is embraced by global designers including the infamous Karl Lagerfeld who had a western inspired show at Fair Park in Dallas. So ya, we are kind of awesome.
Looking for some Texas inspired fashion? Enjoy…and God Bless Texas!
