Make It Happen!

If you haven’t heard already, today is International Women’s Day. Each year, a theme is selected to encourage and inspire women across the globe. The slogan for 2015 is “Make it happen.” Short, simple, and to the point. I like it. While it may sound simple, making it happen often involves courage, tenacity, and perseverance. It is one thing to say you want to do something, and it is a different story when you take a risk and set off to accomplish your dream. For me, a small example of making it happen was biting the bullet and creating my blog a few months ago. I had been saying I wanted to start one for years, but for some reason, I just did not have the confidence to get started. It was the support of my girlfriends that helped me make it happen.

We have heard some great speeches recently addressing women’s equality. Patricia Arquette went after equal pay in her acceptance speech at the Academy Awards. Emma Watson (aka Hermione) invited men to the table introducing a new and appropriate take on what feminism really means. I often believe that it is women that are the toughest on other women. In previous roles and internships where visibility was high, I found that my harshest critics were women, not men. I want to encourage my fellow women out there to lift each other up and support each other in making it happen. In the past year or so, I have met some incredible women who possess such a positive outlook on life and who support each other in their endeavors. This has given me strength and has only further inspired me to reach out and support others in my community.

At the end of the day, Maya Angelou sums it up best, “I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life’s a bitch. You’ve got to go out and kick ass.”

Thanks for stopping by my blog! This post sums up all my feelings exactly. I finally bit the bullet and started a blog as well after contemplating it for so long (and comparing myself to more established bloggers), and I’m still struggling getting people to notice it/follow but at least I started! xx

Such an amazing and inspiring post! I love this year’s slogan and can completely relate to it at every level as I feel that everyday I wake up on a mission; it could be the simplest of things but everyday I’m motivated and super excited to “make things happen” and make sure they get done.

As for what I want to make happen this year; I wish to start fashion styling projects for others this year as oppose to myself. Can’t wait!

Thanks so much love! I could not agree more, and I know you will achieve some amazing things this year.;) I cannot wait to see the styiling you do for others. When you board a plane, they tell you to put the oxygen mask on yourself first, in the case of an emergency, before assisting others. I use the same logic and say you have to start with embracing and enjoying your personal style before helping others. And you have great style!

Wow, I feel I could have written chunks of your post myself. I only started just over a month ago but am happy with it so far. Getting followers and keeping them interested on the most part anyway. Yes every day I am determined to make a small step towards my goals. Slow but sure for me anyway.
