While you all may be out celebrating St. Patrick’s Day weekend in your best green attire, today I am all about Pi Day. Given my insatiable sweet tooth, I feel the need to point out that I do not have a spelling problem. Today is Pi Day as opposed to PiE Day, which will next be held on January 16, 2016.
For those of you who are not as nerdy as me (which is pretty much everyone), allow me to explain the significance of the day. Remember having to memorize the first several numbers of π? I have a vivid memory of having to do this in my Pre-Calculus class in high school and thinking “this is why we have high-tech calculators.” The Greek symbol pi represents the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. This constant number is roughly 3.14159 (and on into infinity). For those of you who may not be aware of today’s date, it is March 14, 2015 (3.14.15). Pretty neat, right?!!?
While some celebrate the day by actually eating pie, here are a few must haves that involve all things pi.
