As some of you may know, I’m currently on a much-needed holiday in London. Before I left for the UK, I had the fortune of having brunch with the one and only Jenny Packham. After briefly sharing some of our favorite eateries, the talk turned to Jenny’s new collection.
Jenny Packham has soared to new heights over the past few years after becoming one of Kate Middleton’s go-to designers. Her dresses have an ethereal, feminine, and classic feel, which I absolutely love. In addition to creating stunning gowns worn by the likes of Elle Fanning, Kate Winslet, and Kate Middleton, Jenny has launched an absolutely stunning bridal line. The designer has become incredibly sought after in the US, which prompted her tour around the country. I absolutely loved meeting with her, and her humility and kindness makes me love her even more.
I am always fascinated by the triggers that inspire designers to create their delicate collections. For Jenny Packham, her recent inspirations come from Marilyn Monroe as well as the pieces of art she discovered while travelling through Spain. Her latest pieces truly are pieces of artwork. The beading is incredibly delicate and completed by hand. Each piece can take weeks to create, and the beauty lies in the small details.
I was particularly surprised to find that each gown is incredibly lightweight. For many beaded gowns, wearing them for a few hours can be a workout, as some can weigh up to ten pounds. Jenny spent a great deal of time talking about how important it is that each piece be comfortable. Everything from the length and fabric of the sleeve to the placement of the beading is planned so as to allow the woman to wear the dress and not the other way around. I wish more designers infused comfort into their designs!
Here are a few of my favorite pieces from the collection. Do you have a favorite?
