Can you believe we are already half way through 2015?!? I’m struggling to comprehend how we are already in June, but I’m definitely glad that summer is upon us.
Over the weekend, one of my fabulous readers asked whether it really was acceptable to wear pink in the workplace. If you’ve gone through any of my pictures, you can likely predict my answer which of course is YES. I don’t care where you work or what you do for a living, it is possible to pack a punch with pink. Like in any facet of life, moderation really is key. Just ask yourself a few questions first.
Do you work in a really conservative environment?
Any bankers, accountants, or law firm minions in the house? I know that the environment can be a tad “uptight”, so try incorporating pink in your accessories. Wearing a black shift dress to work? No problem. Depending on your environment, try pairing it with pink flats, a pink bag, or a pink chandelier necklace or bangles. If you have a little room for fun, try going for all of the above.
Do you work in a laid back environment?
Depending on the age range of your upper management or your particular field or industry, you may have a lot more room to have fun with your work wardrobe. While I work in a professional environment, my office does have a family style vibe, and therefore, I feel comfortable having fun with color.
Do you have any meetings with people outside of your organization?
Even if you work in a more casual environment, my advice to anyone meeting with third parties is to go conservative with the pink. It is always critical to make a positive first impression, as most people really don’t grant second changes. Accordingly, if you’re meeting with someone outside your organization for the first time, stick to accessories like a pink scarf tied around your bag or perhaps pink stud earrings.
While certain colors may stand out more than others, it is actually the cut and length of the pieces you put together that counts most. You can wear a navy blue wrap dress to work, but if it has a low-cut V-neck or is far too short, wearing a more demure color won’t save you.
As one of my mentors always says, if you have even a scintilla of doubt, don’t wear it. That being said, it’s always fun to liven up your mood with a bit of color.

Happy start of the warm season….oh and Happy Birthday MOM! 🙂
So, we might say that whether or not to wear pink is a question of fact rather than one of law? 😉

It kinda popped into my head naturally, since this afternoon I spent writing a brief on a motion to dismiss. 😉

oh boy, lawyer humor :-), in my universe, pink, particularly Schiaparelli pink, is the “bomb” to be used here and there, but not all over..and i love it (just like my 6yr old granddaughter). I think i overdid color yesterday (no photo, …seriously i take sucky selfies) i wore a print blouse (from my fabric from my painting) and coordinating teal jeans..then a cerise cardigan and flat…it was too much , but it was an artists’ seminar and i am all about color..oh well

Guilty. ;( Sometimes it can be fun to splash around in color. There’s definitely a time and a place. I must say I’m the queen of sucky selfies.
At an artists’ seminar I imagine you can get away with being larger than life with color. It’s amazing how color is linked to our mood and thoughts. That probably explains why today I went for black. 😉

I love pink, and it’s good that our workplace doesn’t have an office uniform. I can get to use colors I love. 🙂

That’s great! I feel like a lot of industries are becoming a bit less casual in the office which I love. When you feel good and/or comfortable, it is reflected in your work.

I work for at an uptight office so pink as a main color is kind of ruled out. 😦 I love your jacket and dress set from Kate Spade. So classy 😀

Thanks so much Shilpa! I definitely can understand. I worked for a pretty rigid firm where wearing something that wasn’t a suit was going rogue. I took it out in my accessories. 😉

I’m an Accountant but my office pretty laid back. Our dress code is business casual. I have worn pink but I normally tone it down.

I’m definitely a fan of more relaxed work environments because it allows you to be yourself while also maintaining a sense of professionalism. I’m sure you rock the pink. 😉

Preach it! there’s never anything wrong with wearing a little pink!
Of course, don’t try for the Dolores Umbridge look (harry potter anyone?)
I was my Dad’s birthday yesterday too!

Happy Birthday to you dad!!:) You have just seen into the future Elyse. I recently was given a special tour of the Harry Potter studios, and I will be highlighting some of the fashion featured including the dreadful Dolores. Seriously I hated her more than any other character in the series.
