Has anyone been to a gym lately? If so, you have probably had to fight for a yoga mat or a treadmill. Oh the joys of new year’s resolutions.
When it comes to working out, I am pretty consistent throughout the year. However, I am always down to revamp my workouts and try new healthhy eating options. Perhaps it was a sign when Influenster selected me for a trial of various Slim Fast products…
After ringing in the new year in Miami, I returned home to find this box waiting at my doorstop.
Last weekend I decided to give my Slim Fast box a shot, and I am happy to report a two pound loss! Here is the breakdown of the Slim Fast Plan:
Replacing two meals with meal replacement shakes, bars, and/or smoothies was the most difficult part of the plan. I am not the biggest fan of drinking my meals, particularly while at work, but I decided to try it out. The vanilla shake was actually pretty filling, and with 20 grams of protein, I was able to obtain the energy I needed. The 100 calorie snack packs are my favorite item in the box, as you can enjoy the entire bag without feeling guilty. The drizzled crisps (pictured above) tasted great, and for those of you with a sweet tooth, it’s a great way to satisfy a craving. While these crisps only have 3 grams of protein, it is a lot better option than going for a bag of chips or M&Ms.
Following the plan for a weekend was not bad at all, and I definitely felt great starting off the new work week. However, I see myself following the plan for a couple of days every few weeks to reset my batteries as opposed to adopting the plan as a permanent lifestyle change. Overall, I enjoyed trying out these products, and I would definitely incorporate the snacks into my meal plan.
Eating right is definitely a great start to feeling strong, but it is so important to MOVE! Fortunately my Slim Fast weekend happened to fall at the same time Soul Cycle teamed up with Target in Houston to offer free cycling classes. I cannot wait until Soul Cycle opens up in April, as after taking two classes, I’m hooked!
Let’s all make healthy choices this week!

I would prefer doing yoga rather than going to gym

I really enjoy yoga too! I find it a lot easier to go to a yoga class then to the gym. Going to the gym can definitely be a daunting task.

I hate exercise. I used to love to walk; not so much anymore. Maybe it’s ’cause of winter. But I have learned how it stay the same weight without moving a muscle! And there we go! 🙂

Winter definitely discourages people (myself included) from working out. I have started doing a lot of exercise at home which helps. If you can maintain your weight without the exercise, lucky you! It definitely gets me going in the morning….especially when I know I’ll have a long day in the office.

When I was in college I would buy the Slim Fast drinks and they worked great for me. It was convenient and buying in bulk at Sam’s Club was in my college student budget (cheaper than a meal plan and cheaper than buying groceries. I was in an expensive area). As a 30 year old, I wouldn’t want to do the shakes again, but I will definitely check out those snacks!
YouTube videos, having your own yoga mat and weights = CONVENIENCE.

I’m completely with you on buying in bulk!! You save trips to the store, and of course money. I’m all about Sams and COSTCO. I think it’s completely psychological, but I just don’t feel right with replacing shakes as meals. The snacks are definitely great, and much cheaper in bulk. 🙂

Currently my second breakfast is a green shake, but I’m not surviving on shakes alone! (Plus, I had dinners in the dining hall and remember taking as much fruit with me as possible for between the shakes).

I definitely cannot go for shakes alone. I thinks it’s a great supplement mixing in nutrients from natural foods.

Speaking of Costco, I was just going to tell you to try the “Premiere Protein” Shakes from Costco. 30g’s of protein, 1 g of sugar, 150 cal. Much better taste, I think. Stay away from “fake” sugar & dance …alot. 😉 Peace.

Dance a lot…..love that! 30 grams is no joke! I’ll have to get that. Thanks!!

The last time I looked at Slim-Fast, I didn’t see many ingredients I recognized as actual food. Maybe they’ve improved?

They seem to be improving for sure. Baby steps 😉.
