I know it has been quite a while since my last post.  So many wonderful people were checking to see what was going on, and I send you all my LOVE!  Work has been a bit nuts with my travelling all over the place.  As I write this long overdue post, I am sitting in the Lufthansa Lounge in Frankfurt watching the planes go by.  Anyway, I digress.

Earlier this month, I flew to Washington to learn about anti-corruption developments (how exciting, I know).  Washington, DC is absolutely one of my favorite places, so while I did not have much time to explore, there were three things I had to do: (1) visit the White House, (2) visit one of the Smithsonian museums, and (3) catch up with a dear friend.

Why is visiting the White House so important?  Other than for obvious historical reasons, it is a place that is dear to my heart.  Back in 2008, I had the privilege of being a White House intern, and my time there produced so many wonderful memories.  It has been almost eight years since the first day I entered the White House with my Hello Kitty notepad stowed away in my Marc by Marc Jacobs work tote.  Ahh memories…

It is with great hesitance that I share the before and after.  On the left, you have a refreshed me sporting a Marc by Marc Jacobs coat, Balenciaga bag,  and a big grin following my greeting President Bush after he landed in Marine One on the South Lawn of the White House.  To the right, you have a tired me following a delayed flight sporting  a Milly coat, Prada handbag, and Anya Hindmarch bag charm.  If one thing hasn’t changed these eight years, it is my love for coats and accessories. One thing that made me a bit sad was the security gate that was put in place.  Before, you could grip your hands on the White House gate and marvel at this historical spot.  Now, it is barricaded off.  A sign of the times I suppose.

Next on my list is a visit to the Smithsonian. I absolutely love how the Smithsonian museums are all free.  There is so much to see and do, and there’s something for everyone.  One exhibit I was dying to see was the First Lady Exhibit at the National Museum of American History.  You can view dresses such as the Jason Wu gown worn by Michelle Obama at inauguration or the fabulous red dress sported by Laura Bush.  It is amazing to see some of the more recent pieces first and then walk back in time.  While the dresses of today are absolutely stunning, there is something about the detail, beading, and embroidery that was done before our time that was just incredible.

I then strolled along the National Mall, one of the most famous sites in the city on my way to the Renwick Gallery.  While it is getting quite toasty in Houston, DC’s warm up is going at a much slower pace.  This is me freezing on my ten mile walk.

When I finally managed to warm up, I had arrived at Renwick, and I urge you to take a short visit if you are in the area.

Last but most important, I had fun having high tea with my dear friend and fellow Aggie. Regardless of where I am in the world, nothing beats spending time with quality people. If you’ve read some of my past posts, you may know how much I love high tea.  Most people don’t know about Lady Camelia in Georgetown.  It’s super cute!
