Diamonds & Desserts

What can I say?!? The title says it all. To steal a line from The Sound of Music, “these are a few of my favorite things.”  If there is one thing Middle Eastern people love, it has to be be jewelry.  From watching jewelry makers craft the finest pieces in Geneva to observing my mom pick out jewelry in Beirut, I have always loved studying up on the latest jewelry trends.

The lovely Joy Sewing, editor for the Houston Chronicle, hosted the Fabulous Diamonds & Desserts event at Robbins Brothers.  Both the ladies and the gents enjoyed marveling at the diamond displays covering everything from bracelets, necklaces, to engagement rings and beyond.

Almost as beautiful as the diamonds was the dessert bar.   Talk about “True Love”!

I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to learn quite a bit about the cut, color, and quality of diamonds over the past few years.  I must say it was rather fun to see the men in the crowd eager to ask questions. What did we learn?  While size is nice, it is the quality of the stone that counts!

One highlight from the night was learning more about Girls, Inc.  I love learning about different charitable organizations in the Houston area.  As a member of the Junior League, I have had the privilege of serving various charities.  Girls, Inc. provides all types of services to empower women, but one thing that stood out in particular was the work they do to help build the self-esteem of young women.  This is so incredibly important, and I look forward to seeing this organization grow!  Check out their website here for more info!

Wearing a gorgeous purple cocktail dress by Houston’s own Chloe Dao, Joy graciously welcomed her guests and was eager to meet my all of the excited (and well fed) bloggers in the crowd.  From trying on jewelry to taking the infamous selfies, it was a joy (pun intended) to attend.

When a lovely attendant asked me what I wanted to try on, I of course asked to sport the most expensive thing she could think of.

As I came straight from work, my look was all business.  However, a little frosting can jazz up any look. 🙂

I want so send some major love to the lovely staff from Robbins Brothers who let us have a little fun, and of course a big hug to Joy for hosting such a fabulous event!
