Nia Varadalos once said, “You’re never too fat for a purse.” While my weight on the scale has seen its ups and downs, my love for handbags has remained constant. A couple of years ago, Fendi launched its monster collection complete with bag bugs. Naturally, the collection was a hit, and it launched a global bag charm phenomenon.
Purse charms can be seen in virtually every designer collection from Fendi to Michael Kors to Valentino. Suddenly we started accessorizing our accessories (how meta), which has led to a multi-million dollar industry. If you scroll through some of my past posts, you will very quickly identify my own personal obsession with purse charms. Here are just a few from my personal collection.
For those of you interesting in adding a little oomph to your handbags, here are a few of my favorite designers for bag charms.
Anya Hindmarch
British designer Anya Hindmarch is well known for her unique creations. I absolutely love her designs, and she just so happens to be one of my favorite accessory designers period. And that, my friends, is saying a lot.

Fendi
Fendi is largely responsible for bringing the handbag charm to life in recent years. The Karlito charm made in Karl Lagerfeld’s likeness is one of my absolute favorites and has been sported by virtually every female celebrity. The only downside to these babies of course is the price. I personally love finding these little guys on SALE.
Burberry
Burberry’s bag charms range from funky to traditional, and I love them. My personal favorite is my friend “Thomas Punk”.
Kate Spade
Unlike all of the previous designers, Kate Spade’s charms actually come at a decent price. I am officially OBSESSED with the Miss Piggy charm. Definitely on my Christmas list. 🙂
Kate Spade has a whole portion of their website dedicated to bag charms. The zodiac collection is super cute and would make great Christmas gifts…wink, wink.
Whether you sport a simple black tote in need of a little spirit, or you’re looking to add on even more craziness, bag charms can be a great way to have fun with your look.
A recent additional to my collection, and my new personal favorite charm, is Gucci’s evil eye number. You can never go wrong with a little evil eye in your life.
Happy bag charm shopping!

Very cute! Great post. I’ve taken to tying bright scarves around the handles of my plain black leather bag, but I’ve also got a dangly little crystal Hello Kitty thing that I get tons of compliments on.
