Happy New Year! While you may be thinking it is a bit too late to be saying this, it is my first post in 2018!
In the start of each new year, I always reflect on the previous year, reflecting on the changes (both good and bad). It seems that Hollywood itself has gone through quite a few changes, and this was certainly felt on last night’s red carpet for the Golden Globes.
Truth be told, I didn’t really watch any of the featured films. However, after learning of the initiative to wear black in support of the Times Up Movement, I could not help but keep an eye out for the night’s fashion features.
I have a tendency to go for navy blue and black as my “safe” colors, so I felt rather justified after seeing the red carpet gowns. You really cannot go wrong with a black, elegant, floor-length gown. From lace to intricate beading, I felt as though many actresses looked their best last night by keeping it simple and not showing too much.
Here are so of my favorites, least favorites, and my honorable mention awardees:
Best Dressed
1. Penelope Cruz in Ralph an Russo
I am a huge fan of lace, and this dress was elegant and simple. More importantly, it fit her perfectly.
2. Dakota Johnson in Gucci
Truth be told, I am not a big fan of Dakota’s fashion choices. However, the details in this Gucci gown were incredible.
3. Mandy Moore in Rosie Assoulin
I have always liked Mandy. She always manages an effortless look. I love the pop of red, and the cut was just right for her tall frame.
4. Margot Robbi in Gucci
This was yet another win by Gucci. The beading was incredible, and the gold accents perfectly suited Margot’s coloring.
5. Diane Kreuger in Prada
Diane’s red carpet fashion often goes in odd directions. She killed it yesterday, and I just loved the sheer cape.
Worst Dressed
1. Halle Berry in Zuhair Murad
This would be great for the MTV VMAs but not appropriate for this event. I dont doubt that she looks amazing, but this was just not the right night.
2. Blanca Blanco in ….
She tends to go overboard for attention, so I’ll just leave it at that.
3. Kate Hudson in Valentino
I’m sick of the sheer look, and she could have done so much better. With a sheer bottom and non-existent top, this was just too much for the night.
4. Kelly Clarkson in Christian Siriano
I really like Kelly and Christian, but this was just too much fabric.
Honorable Mention
1. Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton
Her style is so understated, and I loved the simplicity of this look.
2. Kerry Washington in Prabal Garung
Some hated this look, but I loved the booties and seeing her go outside the box.
3. Katherine Langford in Prada
Simplicity with a little kick of energy works wonders.
4. Jesaica Biel in Dior
This dreaa fit her petite frame perfectly and grabbed attention in a sea of black.
5. Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace
Angelina tends to stick to understated looks and of course black. I loved the pop of flair with the feathered sleeves.
Overall, I liked seeing classic looks on the red carpet with a bit of a twist. I am really hoping that the whole less is more trend continues to die down.
Have a favorite look?!?

Jessica Beil and Mandy Moore killed it in my opinion. And Dakota Johnsons dress is growing on me more and more. The spaghetti straps are a tad nineties, but the back f the dress is stunning! ❤

Jessica and Mandy were stunning. Mandy Moore is often overlooked, but I like her style. I do think Dakota’s overall style is a bit 90s. The back definitely made the dress.

She really is! Many times I actually prefer more of the B list stars who are there then the a-listers. It really is! Which while it might be in, I can not stand, but I agree the back of that dress was exquisite! ❤

I loved some of the fashion from last night. I thought so many celebrities made black dresses stand out from the norm and had such a unique look. I do agree with your worst dressed lit however, because not everyone lived up to the fashion expectations.

Nice roundup of best (and not so best) dressed! It’s only in recent years that I’ve finally warmed up to an all-black ensemble – I don’t know what took me so long!

I agree about the Kelly Clarkson dress; nice design and great gold accents but too much fabric. The Penelope Cruz dress does look awesome.

Great roundup girl! I loved Kerry Washington’s dress but I don’t think the shoes go. She usually kills it on the red carpet tho so I think she deserves a pass. lol.
